Sony Launches A PlayStation Controller For The iPhone

With the same configuration of buttons and levers, it will not be necessary to reconfigure the controls in the games to play a game, although the experience will not be as fluid as playing on the traditional console due to the latency of the connections.

Playing games on the iPhone will soon be a lot more like playing games on a console. Sony will launch this month, together with the company Backbone, a controller inspired by the Playstation DualSense controller, with the brand's characteristic button configuration. Although Backbone already had several controls for the iPhone and even Android, the Backbone One, designed together with Sony, comes at a good time. Sony has just launched the new PlayStation Plus game subscription service, which includes better support for games that run directly in the cloud and has also had an app for iPad and iPhone, PS Remote, for years, which allows you to play the console from home remotely.

With the same configuration of buttons and levers, it will not be necessary to reconfigure the controls in the games to play a game, although the experience will not be as fluid as playing on the traditional console due to the latency of the connections. PlayStation recommends a WiFi connection of at least 15 Mbps both at home -where the console is physically located- and where the iPhone is. Although it is possible to use a data connection, the latency is usually worse.

The controller includes a Lightning connection and traditional headphone jack. The Lightning connection allows you to charge your phone while gaming, as the device physically blocks the port on your phone. And although it is clearly focused on PlayStation users who want to play their machines remotely, you can also use native games for Apple's phone or other cloud gaming services such as Steam or GeForce Now.

The device will go on sale in the coming weeks at a price of around 100 euros and includes one month of access to Apple Arcade, Apple's monthly gaming subscription service, and Stadia Pro, Apple's advanced cloud gaming service.
