According to The Verge, it's going to give developers a lot more access to its reverse chronological timeline. This update to the recently released Twitter API v2 (the system they use to be able to extract data from Twitter) is a new step in Twitter's journey to support developers.

As Twitter points out in its announcement, the new API v2 feature offers developers a way to " retrieve the most recent Tweets and Retweets posted by the logged in user and the accounts they follow".
