The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, affirms that Russia leads the race for this type of weapon. According to the latest information, this missile would have hit a large weapons depot.
The Russian Federation military launched a hypersonic ballistic missile and destroyed a large underground weapons depot in western Ukraine, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said. If confirmed, it would be Russia's first use in this war of the Kinzhal, or Dagger, air-launched ballistic missile, most likely by a MiG-31 fighter jet.

President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly highlighted Russia's investment in hypersonic missiles, which can travel at more than five times the speed of sound, or Mach 5. The statistics are impressive:

According to Russian officials, the Kinzhal can hit a target at a distance of up to 2,000 km (1,240 miles) and can fly at over 6,000 km/h.
President Putin boasted last December that Russia led the world in hypersonic missiles, which are difficult to track because they can change direction in mid-flight. Russia released a video of what it said was its missile attack on the weapons depot in Deliatyn, a village in southwestern Ukraine just 100km from the Romanian border.
