iPhone SE 2022: As Powerful As The Most Expensive iPhone

This Friday this model will go on sale for 529 euros, smaller and with fewer cameras, but with the A15 Bionic chip.

The most powerful processor in mobile telephony right now is Apple's A15 Bionic, a chip with more than 15,000 million transistors adjusted with incredible precision to the apple company's phones and tablets. It is the heart of the most expensive iPhone in the company's catalog, as expected, but soon it will also be the cheapest.

That is the promise made by the new iPhone SE, announced last week and which will go on sale this coming Friday. For 529 euros (30 euros more expensive than its predecessor, the 2020 iPhone SE) it offers exactly the same CPU and GPU as an iPhone 13 Pro Max for 1,259 euros. It has fewer cameras, a smaller screen and many other cuts that explain its price, but in power? It's too much

Tehnologija have been able to test it for the last four days and it is what you would expect from the evolution of the 2020 model. It is the only iPhone that resists changing the home button and TouchID fingerprint reader, its 4.7 screen inches seems tiny - accustomed as we are to mobiles of more than six inches - and has no complexes in showing a single camera on the back. But there is no doubt that the A15 Bionic suits very well.

Restrictions On Forwarding Messages

The jump with respect to the A13 Bionic of the previous iPhone SE model is not excessively noticeable on a day-to-day basis (it was already a phone with a very fluid experience), but it is in certain specific cases, such as the performance in some games thanks to the greater graphic power and more photographic features for the camera.

There are more benefits. Now, with the A15, the iPhone SE gains support for 5G networks, although not for all bands. It does not have support for what is known as millimeter wave, for example, which is the set of frequencies that give the highest speed within the set of 5G frequencies.

The autonomy also improves, although it is not only due to the processor. There is a somewhat larger and more efficient battery and the screen is relatively small. It all adds up. Apple talks about 15 hours of continuous video playback. In our tests the figure has been closer to 14, and around 9 hours of continuous use in all types of applications. It's not much - it's in line with the experience of an iPhone 13 Mini, but it's enough.

SCREEN

To achieve the cheapest iPhone, Apple has made the same sacrifices as in the 2020 model. The iPhone SE has a 4.7-inch IPS screen. It looks great in all sorts of situations, but by today's phone standards it's rather small and has a low resolution (1,334 x 750 pixels).

It has excellent color reproduction and good brightness, but not high refresh rates or other features that more expensive iPhones and, admittedly, many Androids in the same price range or even cheaper boast.

CAMERA

The other big sacrifice is the camera. The iPhone SE only has one on the back. It has the same quality as the main camera of any other iPhone of the current generation, which is exceptional, but without the company of an ultra wide angle or a zoom, the photographic possibilities are more limited.

With the A15, the camera is capable of applying Smart HDR, Deep Fusion - which adds sharpness to the image - or photographic styles, but, inexplicably, it does not include the night photography mode of the latest iPhones. It also does not have a Macro function, which depends on the ultra wide angle lens and the portrait mode is limited only to people and is done using the focus pixels on the sensor, instead of comparing the image of two sensors, which usually gives worst results.

Overall, when it comes to taking normal photos, the camera is very good, as good as an iPhone 13 or 13 Pro. But when conditions get a bit rough, the SE doesn't have the flexibility and adaptability of its siblings greater. The phone, yes, is capable of recording 4K video at 60 frames per second of very good quality, and slow motion at 240 frames per second with 1080p resolution.

These limits in a way make the focus of the iPhone SE clear. This is an iPhone designed for users who want the experience of being on the Apple platform, with all that it entails (FaceTime, iMessage, AppStore...) but don't necessarily care about having a very versatile camera or a large screen . It's also the only option for those who prefer TouchID and the physical home button.

For those looking for a low-priced iPhone, the temptation is high, but an iPhone 12 Mini (the smallest model of the 2020 iPhone) is not far behind in price (689 euros) and offers more screen, dual camera and a little more battery. In both cases the base price is for models with 64 GB of memory.

The best thing about the SE is that with the upgrade to the A15 and 5G support, those who opt for it will have an iPhone with many years of useful life.
