The US Defense Research Organization (DARPA) has begun work on a new long -range drone, which will be equipped with missiles and can be dropped from a plane while flying at high altitude.
The initial work and design contract for the long shot has been awarded to three major companies. These include General Atomics, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.
In this regard, DARPA's press release states that the purpose of the 'Long Shot' unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) is to ensure long-range access and success of the air mission as well as to protect 'valuable aircraft and pilots' from damage.
Another similar drone project, called the Gremlin, is nearing completion. It is likely that the two projects will be merged in the future, as their goals are more or less the same.
According to DARPA Program Manager, Lt. Col. Paul Calhoun, the long-shot drones will be able to use both existing and sophisticated surface-to-air weapons, which would give the United States superiority on the battlefield and Will also be stable.
