It seems like science fiction or a dream that would not go beyond the cinema screens, but this week in Bratislava we saw a car fly ... between two cities and landing in an entire international airport.
35 minutes in the air ... and then by road
It is the AirCar, the brainchild of Professor Stefan Klein, CEO of KleinVision, the company he founded together with businessman Anton Zajac and which has developed this flying car that has taken an important step forward for the credibility of this type of model.
The first interurban flight (and between airports) of the Aircar prototype lasted 35 minutes , the time necessary to make the journey between Nitra and Bratislava , in which the car climbed to 8,200 feet of altitude (2,500 meters) reaching a cruising speed of 190 km/h.Once the flight was completed by air, the vehicle began its transformation from plane to car , an operation that takes less than three minutes (in which the wings are folded back to the side and the tail moves forward), after which the pilot put Heading by road to the center of Bratislava.
So far AirCar had made multiple short test flights, totaling 40 hours, but never between two cities. This first AirCar has a 160 horsepower BMW engine, but the pre-production prototype will raise that performance to 300 hp, will be able to reach 300 km/h and will have an estimated range of 1,000 km.The AirCar is a project of the Slovak Stefan Klein , who after completing the first test of the flying car, said that “this flight initiates a new era of dual transport vehicles. It opens a new category of transport and gives the individual back the freedom associated with cars ”. About the test, he added that "the machine worked perfectly."

Once on the runway of the Bratislava airport the 'plane' was transformed into a car in less than 3 minutes . At that time, it folded its wings hiding them in the sides of the bodywork and shortened the length of the tail to adapt to the measurements that later allowed it to roll through the center of the Slovak capital. Already in its car form, this vehicle has a sporty and attractive appearance .
To date, the car that flies has already accumulated about 40 hours of flight, at a maximum altitude of about 2,500 meters and an average speed of 190 kilometers per hour. This proves its reliability, but in case something goes wrong, the flying car also has a parachute that would reduce the impact against the ground.

There is still no date for the commercialization of the AirCar , since it is still a prototype that must exceed 50 hours of flight to jump to the next level, in which it will have light tweaks in the design and it will be given greater power , that will allow to achieve higher flight speed. With the final model, Klein hopes to achieve the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certificate with this improved model.
